Here are the descriptions offered by Steve when he posted them on Facebook in Summer - Fall 2014
Revisiting Roddy's 'Western Skies' album in acoustic form, here's a lovely acoustic version of the title track.
Sadly it doesn't feature the haunting harmonica that he has added to his live rendition of this song in recent times but this is still a wonderful studio recorded version of this cracking song...
'Western Skies'
Dry Land from Roddy's 'Western Skies' album was of course an acoustic track so there's not a huge difference with this take on the song but, nevertheless, here's the (also) acoustic demo version of 'Dry Land' for you all to enjoy...
'Dry Land' (demo)
'Western Skies' may receive a little less love than some of Roddy's other albums but the acoustic Surf-style demos that he recorded for this album are priceless. Here's a prime example, the rather good demo version of 'Worlds in Worlds'...
'Worlds in Worlds' (demo)
Here's another acoustic demo of a tune from the 'Western Skies' album. This time it's Marble Arch that get's the 'Roddy and his lone guitar' treatment.
'Marble Arch' (demo)
Here's Roddy's live version of The Go-Betweens 'The Wrong Road' recorded at The Queens Hall in Edinburgh on 12 May 2006, less than a week after the Australian band's Grant McLennan had died suddenly of a heart attack.
'The Wrong Road'(Live 2006)
Here's a decent recording of Roddy covering Jessie Rae's 'Inside Out' from Paisley Abbey on 27 Oct 2012
'Inside Out' (Live 2012)
On the subject of rare Roddy covers, here's a nice version of 'Mr Bojangles' that he performed live with Edwyn Collins in 2001...
'Mr Bojangles' (Live 2001)
Here's Roddy's beautiful acoustic cover of The Beatles' 'In My Life' which was featured on a tribute compilation CD of John Lennon songs given away with Uncut magazine in 2002. 'In My Life'
From Roddy Frame's unreleased Sister Shadow CD single, this live take on 'The North Star' was originally recorded for VH-1 Talk Session on September 10, 1998
'The North Star'
Continuing with the rarities, here's a song from Roddy's unreleased Sister Shadow CD single.
Roddy and Independiente went their separate ways before this single was released and, for that reason, this unreleased B side is a fairly hard-to-find track.
'Hungry Ghost Eyes'
Here's the other unreleased studio B side from the proposed 'Sister Shadow' single in 1999. It's a cover of John Cale's 'The Thoughtless Kind'.
'The Thoughtless Kind'
Roddy recorded this wonderful studio version of 'Birth Of The True' for Janice Forsythe's 'The Culture Studio' 28 April 2014. With a tad more energy than the official 'Knife' version, this is more like the way he plays it live these days.
